Why do we think that mens perfume smells manly and women perfume womenly?

this quation is for only smart thinkers:))Why do we think that mens perfume smells manly and women perfume womenly?
Because men's perfume usually has a muskier undertone associated with masculinity, whereas female fragrances are sweeter and more floral which are associated with femininity. It's all down to a combination of sex, marketing and historical preconceptions of gender.

EDIT To Nicky C ';perfume'; is another word for an aroma or pleasant scent, it doesn't have to be the noun. Why do we think that mens perfume smells manly and women perfume womenly?
This is actually a very good question in my opinion.

Sometimes it is difficult to tell if you just smell them them, but women's usually smells like flowers or something you could eat. Men's more often smells like a plant or soap... clean, crisp smells. These are smells that associated with ruggedness.

Studies are done during the development that help determine if it is a smell that is attractive to members of the opposite sex (or same sex if it is marketed as a smell for gay people.)

Beyond the smell itself, there is a marketing campaign that includes direct advertising, packaging, etc.
i guess it would go back to prehistoric days.. hunters n gatherers..

hunters would smell like smoke and wood.. and fire... and sweat..

gatherers would smell like fruits and berries..

evolution takes place and therefore scents of men and women would distinguish themselves... and would seen as more male and more of a female scent

thus men cologne would describe the scent as.. woody.. deep..dark.. musk.. forestlike scent.

women perfume would be based as.. light.. mellow.. fruity.. sweet smell.
i guess since animals do the scent thing also... animals have a a keen scent like males urine females urine and they are attracted to the oppistie sex's scent. so i supose its the same with humans . there is a man and womens scent that makes us more attracted to one another. :-) good question lol
Because we wear what people tell us to wear, if the label says women it is likely a woman would purchase the perfume. If a man saw the same perfume, he would not even take the time to smell it in most cases because it specifically says women.
ok thats a strange/good question. only thing i have to say on the subject is i wear mens perfume, and men seem to find it attractive. (not gay men either lol)

know thats no real help but it is interesting lol. ok ill shut up now :D
Because men and women's body chemistry produces a distinct smell on its own. Some perfumes tend to smell better paired with different natural body smells, whether man or woman.
Well i don't think that a guy would want to go around smelling like flowers and a girl would not want to smell like a guy. Therefore they make purfumes for different genders
becoz ist the prefernce of the two sex just tht and u must hav seen all tht ad stuff it always show tht woman like the perfume of men and men lik the perfume of women.
because all men perfumes smell alike .. it's like one perfume in different containers
It depends on whose doing the sniffing.
Because chanel said so.
